Whangarei Heads - our natural playground

Whangarei Heads is known as a nature lovers paradise. An abundance of walking and hiking trails as well as sheltered coves and stunning white sand ocean beaches can be found throughout this peninsula. Mount Manaia towers 460 metres above the harbour entrance – its dramatic rock peaks are steeped in Maori legend. A one hour climb through beautiful native bush is rewarded with spectacular coastal and harbour views. This track is rated amongst the top 14 short walks in New Zealand.

At the end of the ‘Where Giants Gather' scenic route lies Bream Head Scenic reserve and the stunning 6 kms of white sandy  Ocean Beach. After the tranquillity of the sheltered inner harbour coves, Ocean Beach has a raw energy with its often powerful surf and awesome views. This surf beach is patrolled by surf lifesaving teams throughout the summer period. Fantastic place for surfing, body boarding, sandcastle building or just to kick back and enjoy the laid back pace of Whangarei Heads.

What Our Guests Are Saying

Wow, "Tawahi" was absolutely beautiful, modern and tastefully decorated, very clean and very comfortable. Not far out of town, so grab your supplies because when you get here you can just kick back and relax in this peaceful setting, taking in the most amazing scenery by day and sitting with a glass of wine under the stars on the lovely deck at night listening to the kiwis calling. We just didn't want to leave. It's just magic."
